Using tools of divination are important for witches but it can be very intimidating and can cause a lot of witches to not use these tools. One problem with tools of divination is that you need to know more about them in order to be able to use them. For example, the Tarot cards are some of the most used tools of divination but in order to use them, you have to at least be familiar with the 72 different cards and you have to be able to interpret them in order to even do a reading. On top of that, there are spreads, mixed messages, different combinations and more that you will have to know to use this tool.

People that are new to witchism often choose not to use tools of divination because they don’t think that they are able to remember what things mean but the truth is that there are more to using these tools than just reading. Witches can use things such as dice, runes, playing cards and even the stars in order to tell the future and to do readings and if Tarot readings are not for you, other tools might be.

Instead of just deciding to not use any tools of divination, you can find some that work for you. People all have different thoughts and different needs and talents and so not everyone is going to be good at the same thing. There are some different divinations that can work for new witches such as Bibliomancy.

What is Bibliomancy?

Bibliomancy is one form of divination that you can use when you use books. If you love to read, this is probably a tool that you can use or that you are already using without even knowing it. Bibliomancy was once used by using the bible but with witchcraft, you can use any books that you have. You can have your intuition lead you to certain sentences and then you can ask whatever questions that you want or answer questions that the books show you.

Even though Bibliomancy is easy, it doesn’t mean that it is something that you can use without being comfortable with it. If you are not connected with your intuition, then using any tools can be hard. Bibliomancy can help you to awakening your intuition and be more aware of it. If you don’t feel like you have good intuition, then you don’t have to stop doing bibliomancy, but you have to take time and pay more attention to what your intuition is trying to tell you.

Some issues that people have when using bibliomancy is that you have to interpret things on your own because there are no real meanings or guides to help you to use this tool. There is no symbolism and when you interpret parts of the book, it has to be whatever your intuition tells you. If you are having a hard time connecting to your intuition, then you will have an answer that will be harder to understand. You might read something and then feel strange when you try to interpret it but know that this is okay because things take time to learn. You have to learn to dig deep for your interpretation and do whatever works for you.

Using Bibliomancy

You can use bibliomancy at a small form by asking a question in your mind and then answering it by opening a book and see where the answer come from. You can stop at any page and then read what it says and come up with your answer. Here are some ways to use bibliomancy:

Using a Single Book

This method is a traditional method, and it is a historical way that bibliomancy was used in the past. This would be when someone would pick up a book and would find the answers that they needed just in that book. With witchcraft, you can use whatever book that you want, and you can use one book if that is your choice.

You can use whatever book that calls to you and you can find one that is feeling relevant to what you are looking for. This can be a spiritual book or a book that seems to reach your purpose.

To use Bibliomancy, you have to take the book that you have chosen off of your shelf and put your hand on the book. Ask your question again and focus on it. Keep focused until you open the book and flip to through the pages. Keep doing this until you know when to stop. Wherever your eyes stop, read that part of the book, and get your answer.

Take notes on what the sentences say to you. You may find the answer to the questions that you have in the first sentence, or you might have to read the whole page. Do whatever you feel and whatever you think feels right to you. Did you get the answer to your question? What words stood out to you? What images did you see that stuck in your mind? If it doesn’t make sense right away, ask your question again and try again.

Bookshelf Methods

Another thing that you can do is to go to the bookshelf in a library or in your home. Let your intuition tell you what book to pick out form the shelf. Ask your question in your mind or out loud and then pick up a book. The book can be something that is fiction or nonfiction. Whatever book you feel you should pick, do it and then flip the pages just like with the single book method.

Do this until your intuition tells you to stop and then go where your eyes stop on the page. Read what it says and see if you get your answer. This can come from one sentence, or you might have to read the whole page or the whole chapter. You can sometimes even find one word that will give you the answer that you need.

When you do this method, you use a new book each time you ask a question. You do not get the same book out unless your intuition stops you on that book. Start from the beginning and ask the question and then find out which book you are drawn to. Do this each time you ask a question and see what different books you pick and what answers you get.

Interpreting Your Answer

After you get the answer from using the books, you have to interpret it. Your message can be a way that you use your intuition and a way that your intuition can grow, and you can learn to trust it more.

There will be times when you get an answer right away but there will also be times where you get an answer, and you cannot interpret it right away. These are times where you have to be patient.

Write it Down

Some people will choose to write down the words that give them the answer. They will choose to look at the sentence or the paragraph or even the whole page and they will write it down. Sometimes you can read the passage again and you can get an answer in less words but sometimes you might have to write the whole thing down.

When the passage is super long and you have to write it, try typing it out and printing it so that you can break it down better without having to work so hard. This will also give you a chance to have your own copy and you can take notes on what you have written.

Look at Things that Stand Out

Search for words or phrases that stand out to you. Use your intuition, once again and let your brain point out things that seem different to you. Do not think things out too much but let your self-guide you and find the answers that help you to feel that they are important.

What words seem to stand out to you? Look at things in the passage and see if they mean something to you. You can mark these things in the book, or you can write them or print them so that you can know what they mean to you.

Themes, Emotions or Colors

Once you read your text, you need to look for similar themes, emotions, or colors of the question that you asked. You can find these things in the book that you choose depending on what your passage has; it can have multiple of these things that stand out.

Take notes on what you find and how it corresponds to your question. Pay attention to any symbols that you pick up or any colors that are mentioned in the book that you read. The passage can give you different archetypes that mean something to you. Maybe you read something that you went through in your day or something that you have personally experienced in your life.

Look up the symbolism in the passage and find out what it means but never do this over listening to your intuition which should be the strongest voice that you listen to.

Write down things that you feel and identify with and see if you see things that have meanings that repeat over and over again.

Let the Information Fill Your Mind

Once you do your own interpretation, put the book and your notes down for a while and think on what you have read and what your answer was. Let your mind connect with the meaning and connect with the universe around you.

If you have focused on the book that you read and you have found the things that stand out to you and are important to you, but you don’t know what it means, put the book, and notes down and take a break. Do not think about it for at least a day and then go back to it. You will want to make sure that you get good rest and that you do not push things that aren’t there. Your interpretation can come fast, or it can come later down the line. You will get the answer that you have been given but sometimes you need to let your mind process what you read. You will be able to understand what you read and what it means as time goes on. Sometimes the answers will come when you are asleep, and you need to just be calm about this. You need to remember that bibliomancy can happen right before you go to bed and if you read your notes right before you go to sleep, you might even have your brain work through things while you are sleeping. Let it come to your mind and then go to sleep and trust your subconscious mind to give you the answers that you want.

Once you do this, go back to the passage a few days later and read I again. You will have a rest and you will be able to use your eyes newly to try to get your answers.

Your Rules

Remember that you are the one that makes the rules on how you do things. If you choose to use tools, it is up to you and if you choose not to, that is your choice as well. You need to find what you want to do in your life and in your crafting. If you choose to use Tarot cards or if you choose to use bibliomancy, that is all up to you.

Use your divination tools to be creative and find out what you want in your life. You can use bibliomancy your own way such as read out of a magazine or read out of a multi volume encyclopedia to try to get your answers. You might want to use two or more books at one time and that is okay.

The best thing about using these different kinds of divination is that you can make it unique to your own self. You make your own rules when you do your own spiritual practices, and you have to trust in your own intuition and the power that you have as a witch. You can explore all the tools of divination and you can learn more than you ever imagined.
